Tis the Season for Advent Assemblies

Writer: Halton Waldorf SchoolHalton Waldorf School

By Baghael Kaur, Grade 3 Class Teacher

Our school observes the four weeks of Advent as a way to celebrate all of the kingdoms - the mineral, plant, animal, and human. Each week in December, on Monday mornings, the grade school assembles in our community room, where the kingdom and virtues of each week are acknowledged and celebrated.  We all sing together, light candles, a story is told, and one or more of the classes shares a song, story, poem, or other gem they have prepared.

The assembly on Monday, December 11th was also a chance to celebrate Hanukkah, and the grade three class shared their 'O Hanukkah, O Hannukah' song, along with a traditional dance called the Hora, to the school. Each morning of Hanukkah Ms. Markh (Grade 6 class teacher) has come to our class (along with the grade 6 students) to share a blessing and the lighting of the Menorah. And, last week, class parent, Josh Perell came in to share the story of Hanukkah, as well as the dreidel game which was very much enjoyed by all of the children!
